We Are One! Jan. 5 Thunder Vista Update

We Are One! Jan. 5 Thunder Vista Update

I have been overwhelmed by the response from district leadership, my colleagues at different schools and our strong Thunder Vista staff who all returned to work today ready and committed to making this transition as seamless as possible for our students and families.

This is the first of regular updates that I will be sharing with you over the coming weeks. These updates will include need-to-know information as we transition to and continue our learning at temporary locations.

Important Reminders:

  • Students’ first day of school will be Monday, Jan. 12.
  • Grade levels will stay with their class and teachers.
  • Temporary learning locations by grade levels:

Important Updates:

  • School hours will remain the same. Thunder Vista students will attend school at their new learning location from 8:00 a.m. - 3:10 p.m.
  • In-person learning opportunities. Due to staffing limitations and our goal to best support all students’ academic needs, we will only offer in-person learning opportunities. There will not be a remote learning option.
  • Transportation will be provided to/from all learning locations. Information will be sent to current families of bus riders (Bus Route #27) and families that requested transportation from Thunder Vista to their child’s new learning location. If you have questions, please contact: 720-972-4300 or transportationmail@adams12.org
  • BASE will be provided to current families at all learning locations. Information will be sent to current BASE families about options for their new learning location. If you have questions, please contact: Hanah Box at 720-972-7323 or hanah.j.box@adams12.org
  • A section has been created on our school website for all need-to-know and important updates moving forward. Visit: thundervista.adams12.org/temporary-learning

Staff returned today and were able to gather important learning materials from Thunder Vista and start preparing with their grade level colleagues for students to return. Additionally, leaders at the temporary learning locations are excited to welcome our staff and students to their school and have shared with their families that we will be joining their community for the coming weeks.

Remediation and Repair Status

Remediation is going well and the odor in the building has significantly diminished. Remediation has been completed on the 3rd floor, and is currently in progress on the 2nd floor and the library. Remediation of the crawlspace and the west half of the building will begin once the fire investigation and engineering evaluation are completed, and the area has been cleared for the remediation contractor to start work.

Today, contractors and electrical engineers were able to access the crawlspace and begin evaluating the extent of repairs. We are still waiting on the cause and will share that along with the repair timeline when we have more information.

Future Updates

I know you have a lot of questions about this transition, we are working quickly to get you answers. Stay tuned for frequent updates this week leading up to our return to learning on Monday, Jan. 12.

We Are One Project - To Do

I think it’s very important that we come together and celebrate We Are One spirit, even when we are apart this week. Make a sign or art project that shows that We Are One, everyone from preschool through eighth grade. Have your family take a picture of your sign or project and send it to me. I will highlight these projects on our Facebook.

We are thankful for the ongoing support of our school community from so many across the district. While this is certainly a challenging situation, we are grateful for the support and collaboration of staff, families and students. We Are One!

With respect and gratitude,

Jody Roper
