I’m excited and grateful for this amazing opportunity to be the art teacher at Thunder Vista. I look forward to building relationships with students, parents, staff and the community. This fall will begin my 14th year teaching art and I have experience working with both elementary and middle school students. The last 3 years I’ve taught art in Adams 12 Five Star Schools, including 2 years at Century Middle School and 1 year at Hillcrest Elementary. Prior to teaching in Adams 12, I taught 6 years at Meiklejohn Elementary in Jeffco Public Schools and taught art at various elementary schools in the Dallas area and a middle school in Austin, Texas. I received my BA in Art Studio from the University of New Mexico and I earned my teaching credential in Fort Worth, Texas.
I enjoy teaching students about art and its’ connection to our world as well as about the historical significance of works of art, the importance of craftsmanship, the elements of art and principles of design and the uniqueness of their own creativity. It is my intention to provide a welcoming environment of individual attention and creative expression. Whether it be mastering an art technique or earning the highest recognition for a finished art piece, my professional goal is about teaching each student to explore their fullest potential and gain appreciation for the arts.
In my spare time, I enjoy painting, creating jewelry, hiking and spending time with friends, family and my two puppies, Jake and Miley.
